A creation myth: “That is the last place they will think to look”

This is a beautiful creation myth that very much speaks to our times:

The story is a retelling of a traditional Sioux teaching, often told, and was inspired by a

version given to Gary Zukav, presented in Soul Stories.

Like all good stories, it is not for someone like me to interpret it. That is for you to do for

yourself. But I wonder what questions it opens when we think about it? Have we properly

searched within for what has been hidden? How can we learn the wider ways of knowing of

Grandmother Mole that might help us see it? And if we did, what would we find? If we find

that we create our own reality, what does this mean? How could our lives and the lives of

others be different?

What I love about shamanic practice is that it helps us develop Grandmother Mole’s ways of

seeing and knowing. It empowers us – and requires of us – to look within and how, in doing

so, we also learn to look in a different way without. It helps us learn to expand our sense of

reality and more adeptly be of service to the whole. So, I wonder when - given all the turmoil

in the world right now and the great transformations talking place - we will properly choose to

look inside…
